SHUBI "SICILIAN" - a set of Retro style floorstanding speakers
The SICILIAN stereo speakers are the largest and most serious original project so far. It is a set designed completely from scratch and made 100% by hand, starting from the assembly of the loudspeaker enclosures and ending with attaching the nameplate to their rear panel.
The idea behind the entire project was to create a completely new, massive Retro-style floorstanding speaker set, visually referring to the classic models from the 60's and 70's, but based on the currently used high-class electronic components.
The loudspeakers are designed as a 2-way, closed, but with full access to the interior, which is allowed by a removable rear panel. Each of the loudspeaker is based on three drivers - two STX 10" woofers, connected in parallel and one SB Acoustic tweeter. The drivers are embedded in a TWW arrangement. The heart of the construction is individually designed, dedicated crossover based on high-class Jantzen components.
The crossover cut-off frequency was set at 2800Hz at 18dB/oct. The drivers together work in the range of 36 Hz to 22Khz with a decrease of -6dB/oct, which with efficiency at 92dB, gives extremely low bass and very clear, but not too sharp treble. In addition, due to the very high efficiency of the tweeter and a large range of its work, despite the lack of a mid-range speaker, the sound in the mid-frequency band is reproduced remarkably correctly, dynamically and clearly.
The set is characterized by very good dynamics, controlled bass, which is suitably strong and short or gentle and slightly stretched, exactly where it is required. All vocals and sounds of stringed instruments or keyboards are incredibly clean and accurate. Great stereo allows for a very precise placement of instruments in space.
The SICILIANSs are made of solid, stable, waterproof plywood 21 mm in thickness and double ribbed. The enclosures are finished with walnut veneer, dyed with high-class chemically hardening pigments and hand-applied and polished hygrophobic waxes with UV filters. The loudspeaker fronts are made of 25 mm HDF board, covered with a multi-layer coating of ery durable,graphite , waterproof, casein paint.
The speakers have dedicated grilles with upholstery in the form of a high-class, three-layer, sound-permeable acoustic fabric. The grilles are attached to the fronts with classic pins.
The RMS power of the set is 100W. Its significant advantage is the ability to work with older models of amplifiers or transistor receivers of lower power, which excludes the need to buy relatively expensive tube amplifiers. The speakers can be driven by a traditional amplifier with a power of as little as 50W, without a significant loss of efficiency of the set.
The connection terminals are located on the rear panel of the enclosure below the nameplate and allow the connection of signal cables with raw cables (max. 4mm2) or banana plugs.
